Canal tours in Copenhagen

One of the most popular tourist attractions is the Copenhagen canal tour. The boat is not an attraction in itself, but sightseeing on the water is a great way to visit Copenhagen.

On this page you can read more about the city's canal tour and get an idea of what to expect when you go on tour with one of the tourist boats. Although most people will prefer a canal cruise with sunshine, the boats are sailing throughout the year which means that you all year round can visit Copenhagen from the water.

Cosy sightseeing in Copenhagen

You sail along Copenhagen's scenic canals and get a glimpse of the city life unfolding around you. Sit back and enjoy the view while the guide tells you all about the attractions you are sailing to. Because what should you actually see and do in Copenhagen? On a classic Copenhagen canal cruise, you are a tourist in Copenhagen, and you find out about some of the most popular attractions in the city – those accessible from the water.

Sightseeing on the water is a really lovely, relaxing way to experience large parts of Copenhagen in a short amount of time. A canal tour in Copenhagen lasts about an hour, and you can look forward to seeing and hearing more about The Little Mermaid, Langelinie, Børsen (the Stock Exchange), Amalienborg Palace, the Opera House, the Black Diamond (the Royal Library) and Nyhavn.

Canal tours in Danish and English

The boat trip around Copenhagen's charming canals is for families with children, couples and larger groups. There is room for everyone, and the guide lets you know what you are sailing past, in both Danish and English. Some of the departures also offer a third language – and it can vary between Spanish, German, French, Italian and Portuguese.

If you are not in the mood for the guide's stories, you can simply choose not to listen and instead soak in all the impressions and the unsurpassed view from the water as you go.

City break with Copenhagen canal cruise

A canal tour in Copenhagen is easy to fit into your holiday plans. They sail all year, with several departures every day. If you are looking to engage in pure relaxation, shopping, gourmet experiences and sightseeing, a Copenhagen canal tour can be a good way of seeing the city without spending too much time walking around or on the train. The canal cruise is also an opportunity for you to enjoy a relaxing break during the day, and where you can rest your legs and enjoy the views of Copenhagen by sea.

From Steel House Copenhagen to the city canal tours

In Copenhagen, you can sail on the Netto Boats from Holmen's Church, from Nyhavn and, in the summer, from Kvæsthusbroen, or you can sail on the original Canal Tours boats, which have been sailing the canals since 1904. The Canal Tours boats sail from Gammel Strand and Nyhavn. Steel House Copenhagen is located roughly 1,5 km from Gammel Strand, around 2 km from Holmen's Church, approximately 2,5 km from Nyhavn and 2,8 km from Kvæsthusbroen. This means a walk of 20-35 minutes, all depending on where you wish to sail from.
